A Safeguard Force Women’s Safety Initiative
Staying Aware in Public Spaces
Small steps can make a difference:
• Keep your phone accessible but stay aware of your surroundings
• Avoid wearing both headphones at high volume in isolated areas
• Walk with purpose and confidence
• Trust your instincts, if something feels wrong, it probably is
Your intuition is a powerful safety tool.
Planning Ahead
Being prepared can increase confidence:
• Share your route or location with someone you trust
• Plan transport in advance where possible
• Keep emergency contacts easily accessible
• Know where safe, well-lit spaces are along your route
Leaving early is always okay.
Changing your mind is always okay.
If You Feel Uncomfortable
You do not owe anyone politeness at the expense of your safety.
• Cross the road or change direction
• Enter a busy shop, venue, or public building
• Call someone, even if just to stay on the phone
• Seek help from staff, security, or members of the public
If you are in immediate danger, call 999.
Community safety matters.
• Check in on friends
• Walk together where possible
• Trust and support other women
• Report suspicious behaviour
We are safer when we support each other.
